How to Receive God's Gift of Salvation

Accept God's Free Gift

Salvation is not something we can earn. It is God's free gift, received by trusting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16
"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name." John 1:12
"If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

If you have never received God's gift of salvation, you can come to Christ today. Salvation begins with turning to Him in faith.

  1. Admit your need as a sinner.
  2. Be willing to turn from your sins, repent, and ask for God's forgiveness.
  3. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross and rose from the grave.
  4. Call upon Jesus Christ in prayer and entrust your life to Him.
  5. Receive Jesus as the Lord and Savior of your life.

A Simple Prayer of Faith

A prayer does not save us by the words alone. We are saved by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ. You may express that faith to God in words such as these:

Dear God,

I know that I am a sinner. I want to turn from my sins, and I ask for Your forgiveness.

I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe He died for my sins and that You raised Him from the dead.

I place my trust in Jesus Christ. I ask Him to be my Savior and Lord, and I want to follow Him from this day forward.

In Jesus' name, amen.

What Happens Now?

"Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9
"He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life." 1 John 5:12

When a person receives Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit gives new spiritual life. The Bible describes this as regeneration or the new birth. This is the beginning of a new life with Christ.

Begin Growing in Your New Life

  1. Read the Bible every day so that you can know Jesus Christ better.
  2. Talk to God in prayer every day about everything.
  3. Tell others what Christ has done for you.
  4. Worship, fellowship, and serve with other Christians in a church where God's Word is faithfully taught.
  5. Show the reality of your new life through love, compassion, obedience, and concern for others.
Receiving Christ is not the end of the journey. It is the beginning of a lifelong relationship with Him.

You Can Have Peace with God

God fills our hearts with hope and gives us the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Those who belong to Christ can live with the assurance that they are heaven-bound-not because of their own goodness, but because of God's grace.
